Current Position

Researcher, Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba; Assistant Professor, Pediatric Infectious Diseases, University of Manitoba; Program Director, Pediatric Infectious Diseases, University of Manitoba

History

As a resident, many of my faculty and mentors were Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba members, and encouraged me to take advantage of what the institute had to offer.  Pediatric ID is a very academic and scholarly subspecialty, so to expand by research training I completed a clinical post doctoral fellowship through the institute, prior to joining the University of Manitoba faculty.

I completed my undergraduate degrees in microbiology/immunology (1998) and in biochemistry (1999) at the University of Western Ontario.  My medical school training was at the University of Ottawa (2003), and was followed by a general pediatrics residency (2006) and Pediatric ID fellowship (2008) at the University of Manitoba.  In 2009, I also completed a specialized training course (for a DTM&H) in tropical medicine at the Gorgas Course in Clinical Tropical Medicine in Lima, Peru.

Research Focus

Antimicrobial stewardship in pediatrics in the inpatient and outpatient settings; antimicrobial resistance; MRSA; pediatric blastomycosis; pertussis; medical education in the field of Pediatric ID.
