A leading contributor of science and knowledge through discoveries.
The Next Generation Sequencing platform was established by Dr. Jim Davie as the lead investigator in 2011. The platform currently has three investigators Dr. Deborah Tsuyuki (manager), Dr. Wayne Xu (bioinformatician) and Carolina Gonzalez (research associate) under the direction of Dr. Davie to support research by providing sequencing services.

Jim Davie received his B.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of British Columbia. His post-doctoral training in the area of chromatin structure and function was done in the lab of Dr. Ken van Holde at Oregon State University. Dr. Davie is presently the Scientific Director of the Manitoba Health Research Council, Leader of the Terry Fox Research Institute Prairie Node, and Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Medical Genetics at the University of Manitoba. He serves on several Editorial Boards of journals publishing in Biochemistry, Cell Biology and Molecular Biology and is Editor of the journal Biochemistry and Cell Biology. He has served as a Chair and panel member on CIHR and NCIC/CCSRI Peer Review Committees. His research interests include epigenetic regulation of gene expression in normal and cancer cells, nuclear matrix structure and function, sub-cellular trafficking of transcription factors and chromatin remodeling complexes, signal transduction pathways, chromatin structure and function, and biomarkers in the early detection of cancer. He currently holds a Canada Research Chair in Chromatin Dynamics (Tier 1).

Dr. Wayne Xu is an expert in complex functional and statistical analyses of biological data, including global gene expression analysis, next-generation sequencing (NGS) data (RNA-Seq, DNA-seq, ChIP-Seq, Exome-seq) for gene expression profiling, eQTL, gene splicing, gene fusion, SNP detection, genome assembling, epigenetics, metagenomics, etc. Dr. Xu obtained his BSc in Computer Science and his PhD in Microbiology and Immunology. He has worked as a Computational Genomics Specialist at the University of Minnesota for the past ten years. His work involved support to researchers in NGS data analysis and experimental design, collaborating research projects and grant proposals and providing tutorials and workshops for NGS. In the past three years he has published more than 15 papers related to NGS and genomics studies.
