Become a Member


  • Holds an academic appointment at a Manitoba university*
  • Has a research interest linked to child health

*Visiting scientists with academic appointments outside the province may also apply for membership when hosted or sponsored by an existing CHRIM Member.


  • Build unique collaborations with other investigators that contribute to child health research efforts
  • Be involved in the training and mentoring of new child health researchers – or being mentored as a new investigator!
  • Assist with public outreach and education,
  • Assist with development of international symposia on a range of topics related to child health research
  • Participate in the peer review of research programs
  • Have access to funding opportunities such as operating grants, studentships and/or awards for research trainees, and travel grants
  • Have access to shared specialized equipment, patient examination rooms, meeting and conference rooms, audiovisual resources, and information technology systems
  • Have access to essential research support services offered through the Clinical Research Unit (CRU)
  • Enjoy the opportunity to share research and research related stories through communications at CHRIM


Membership is open to individuals with academic appointments at a Manitoba university and who have an interest in child health research. Membership is not restricted to the Department of Pediatrics and Child Health, nor to the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba.

Members are expected to have a commitment to child health research and play an active role in CHRIM happenings.

  • Renew membership annually in October and provide an updated CIHR Academic CV
  • Keep your online researcher profile up to date
  • Participate in CHRIM programs and events, including Child Health Research Day and the Teddy Bears’ Picnic
  • Contribute to the research blog and video series
  • Play an active role in Board or operating Committees
  • Review Grant and Award Applications when invited
  • Attend CHRIM Town Hall events
  • Provide feedback and creative suggestions for the Institute
  • Collaborate with other researchers to build a sense of community
  • Include the CHRIM logo on any research communications (internal and/or external) related to the child health

The completed and signed form, along with your current CIHR Academic CV, should be emailed to Dr. Terry Klassen (CEO and Scientific Director) at tklassen@chrim.ca.

Upon receipt of an application, contact will be arranged to explore your potential role at the Institute.

As a new CHRIM Scientist you will be asked to make a presentation during our weekly Research Rounds (Thursdays at noon) as a means of introducing yourself and your research interests to the wider community and to facilitate more meaningful interaction and collaborative opportunities.

N.B. Applications for financial support from the Institute will not be accepted until membership is confirmed in writing by the CEO & Scientific Director.
