The Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba is supported by the Children’s Hospital Foundation, and collaborates with partner organizations to facilitate research activities focused on improving the health of children.
The Board of Directors for the Institute (which ultimately reports to the Children’s Hospital Foundation) provides a governing framework within which the community operates. The Management Team and support staff oversee the daily operation of the Institute, ensuring that strategic aims are being realised through successful coordination and support for the community.
Members (CHRIM Scientists) are at the core of the institute and are approved by the CEO and Scientific Director, either upon application or by invitation. To read more about the benefits and responsibilities of CHRIM membership, click here.
Research Themes are established research groups focused on a particular area of research relevant to child health, composed of faculty of recognized excellence. Platforms are services established in the Institute ranging from state of the art technological facilities to guidance and support in the conduct of research and are available to Members and their teams. Terry P. Klassen, CEO & Scientific Director
Dr. Klassen received his medical degree from the University of Manitoba, and his MSc in Clinical Epidemiology from McMaster University. In addition to being the CEO & Scientific Director of the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba, he is also Head of the Department of Pediatrics and Child Health at the University of Manitoba, and Medical Director of the Child Health Program of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.
Nichola Wigle, Chief Operating Officer
Nichola is responsible for the day to day operations of the Institute, ranging from space management, facility access, tours, equipment management, and budgeting. She is also responsible for the institute’s relationships with partner organizations including the University of Manitoba and funding agencies.
Kelly Ross, Resource Manager
Kelly is responsible for the operational aspects of the institute including human resources, Board of Directors governance, membership, and grants and awards competitions.
Dr. Geert t’Jong, CRU Medical Lead
Dr. t’Jong provides leadership to the Clinical Research Unit from a medical perspective. He is also involved in the development and implementation of relations and projects between funders, industry, researchers and clinicians, and strategic planning for the unit.
Rena Papadimitropoulos , CRU Manager
Rena oversees the operations of the Clinical Research Unit, offering leadership to the CRU team, and directing the CRU’s role in research projects. The CRU Manager works in partnership with the Medical Lead.
Debbie Korpesho, Executive Assistant to Nichola Wigle
Debbie works closely with Nichola Wigle to support her role as the Chief Operating Officer and to assist her with the day-to-day operations of the facility.
Adrian Alleyne, Media & Communications Coordinator
Adrian is responsible for the continuing development and realization of a communications strategy for the Institute and its researchers, which includes coordinating media contact, and coordinating communications within CHRIM and between CHRIM and its partners. He also oversees website development and maintenance, and the institute’s social media presence.
Jasmina Veinot, Executive Assistant to Dr. Terry Klassen
Jasmina is responsible for providing administrative support to all aspects of the CEO & Scientific Director’s portfolios and assists in the organization of workshops, conferences and other special events.
Karen Limbert Rempel, Executive Project Lead
On behalf of Dr. Terry Klassen, Karen will drive and facilitate identified projects in collaboration with both the CHRIM and Pediatrics Management Teams. In this capacity, Karen will work closely with Jasmina Veinot, Dr. Klassen’s Executive Assistant. Project scope will include process improvements in and between CHRIM and Pediatrics, as well as strategic planning, academic affairs, outcome data and reporting, and research governance. Karen will continue to act as liaison for CHRIM with research groups, themes, platforms and core facilities
Christina Hrankowski, Finance Coordinator
Christina offers administrative support in the areas of finance, including payroll assistance, accounts payable and receivable, financial reports, and working with University of Manitoba financial systems.
Tatiana Bondar, Administrative Assistant
Tatiana is responsible for providing administrative support to the Resource Manager on numerous projects including CHRIM membership, grants and awards competitions and board meetings.
